Deprecated built-in features

"It is included in an official (built-in) library of a notable programming language."

Does this still apply if a feature has been marked as deprecated, but still functions? For example, JavaScript String.prototype.strike(). I.e., does this rule include old versions of languages? Wd-Ryan (talk) 00:48, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Criterion 2

So does it means it will be possible to add references like in Wikidata? -- Wolverène (talk) 07:35, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Grace period for criterion 1?

When pressing publish on a function, it will obviously not already be invoked in any Wikimedia page. Thus, this criterion is only reasonable if it has a grace period for anyone to get around to invoking it. This also has to take in consideration that creating whatever it is that invokes it (module, template or how abstract articles will be created) might take some time. Therefore, I suggest a grace period of 30 days from creation to when it has to be invoked. Ainali (talk) 06:57, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Definition of "Wikimedia page"

I suggest that we have a generous definition for what a "Wikimedia page" in criterion 1 is so that it can include tools on our tool platforms like toolforge:, wmcloud etc. I imagine it would be valuable if tools there could use various functions. Ainali (talk) 07:12, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

What is the purpose of this proposed policy?

Surely we don't care whether functions are notable? We care if they're useful for the Wikimedia movement generally and the purposes of Wikifunctons specifically, right? Should we just delete this? Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 00:53, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Maybe the name was inherited from another project. Something like "Criteria for inclusion" sounds better for this. Wd-Ryan (talk) 01:56, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't think this is talking about criteria for inclusion, though? Certainly it makes no case for it. Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 04:02, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
