Discussing how to use this page

There were a few comments in Telegram about "how will the community portal will be used?", without any firm conclusions.

Copying my reply, with a few tweaks and some more details:
It's up to you all, how to use this page - Examining other wikis for inspiration would be great!
I'd suggest that one core goal should be keeping it distinct from the Help:Contents page. (a lot of wikis have very similar content in both pages, which I think is confusing).
I was imagining something like Enwiki's setup, which is more of a "here's how you can help/participate" overview and task-sample listing. (w:en:Wikipedia:Community portal) Or something like Envoyage's "Maintenance panel" (voy:en:Wikivoyage:Maintenance panel).
But it's up to you all!
There are also a few semi-related notes/links at User:Quiddity (WMF)/List of initial wiki pages which might be useful.
I hope that helps! Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Merge the Task Centre?

I wonder if the Wikifunctions:Task centre might be helpfully merged to here? (Previously suggested at Wikifunctions:Project chat#Task centre (permalink) which is almost due to be auto-archived).

Reasoning: I lean towards m:Mergism, especially on documentation pages, because scattered and prolific docs make things harder for newcomers to find and for docs-maintainers to remember, and increase the risk of inaccurate duplication/fragmentation, and increase the burden on translators. (See also the thread above this for further/related ideas). Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 21:44, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Makes sense. Currently the Community portal is a little lonely looking, and suggestions of tasks would be an appropriate thing to fill it with. We can always split it off again if necessary. Edward-Woodrow (talk) 21:39, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've done a basic merge. Hopefully others can further improve it now. :) Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 23:00, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Let’s stop recommending Suggest a function now

There’s nothing wrong with it, but is it a good place to start? I suggest that the Catalogue is a better place to start but it depends on the user, and trying functions is already promoted on the Main page. Maybe Wikifunctions:Introduction? But that is currently an introduction to functions here, rather than to the site as a whole. GrounderUK (talk) 13:09, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@GrounderUK: Seems reasonable. (We may also want to make it less prominent on the Main Page, but this isn't the venue for that conversation. :-)) Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 13:16, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Funnily enough, I have quite a few comments to make on that page but I always prefer to start on-topic! ; ) GrounderUK (talk) 14:25, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Remove resolved tasks

I would like to suggest to remove tasks that are done. Currently the page looks quite Messe since there are so many discussions that are already resolved. --Ameisenigel (talk) 13:44, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Also, what's wrong with using section headers? Arlo Barnes (talk) 22:55, 6 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi admin, I'd like to try out to create new function and still stumbled upon with disconencted issue on both implementation and test cases. Should I ask the permission or there are missing steps? Kindly guide me how to assemble them properly since I'm novice here. Thanks. Here is my new function https://www.wikifunctions.org/view/en/Z29108 Affandy Murad (talk) 03:55, 29 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
