Wikifunctions:Apply for editing

From Wikifunctions

There are two new types of advanced-rights user-groups in Wikifunctions: Functioneers and Maintainers. The short-descriptions of each user-right are within Special:ListGroupRights, and there is more detailed context at mw:Help:Wikifunctions/User rights.

Other roles with respective user group rights can be requested on the Requests for user groups page.

Limited function editing during early access

During the first few months of Wikifunctions existence as a production-wiki, the access to creating and editing Object-pages will be limited to an initially small, but steadily growing number of trusted editors, as described in our initial deployment plans.

This is needed because there is a lot of uniquely complex software behind this project, and we want to make sure it is secure and scalable, both for users, and also for the developers in other teams who are supporting the related backend Services.

Permissions during this testing-period will be temporary (~6 months). Once this testing-period is over, the approval process will be run by the community. Processed requests are archived.

Requests for early access to function editing

Please add your username below to be on the list for approval. The development team will steadily approve new accounts as the system successfully scales with that growth. We will try to roughly follow the order of requests, but we might prefer community members in good standing.

Note: we are slowly giving out user rights for now, in order to watch for irregularities. Apologies for being so cautious!

@Stuartyeates (wikifunctions): Are you the same Stuart Yeates as Stuartyeats on Wikipedia? If so, happy to grant it, but please use the SUL account. --DVrandecic (WMF) (talk) 19:23, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
@DVrandecic (WMF): That would be great, I didn't get the ping, because it wasn't my SUL account. Stuartyeates (talk) 04:20, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

  • I can write python and javascript. Discovered you need edit rights to edit even labels so I apply :) Long time wikimedian, I coded javascript gadgets (for Wikidata mostly) and a bit of lua for modules. No plans for Wikifunctions yet, I might toy with the suggested functions and try to implement one on occasion. TomT0m (talk) 17:16, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

General release

Now that we have reached the general release phase, it is no longer necessary to be a Functioneer in order to create new functions, implementations, and tests. You can all start creating functions now!

Thank you for your patience during the soft rollout and careful early testing and scaling of the software. If you have any questions, please bring them to the WF:Project chat.

@Quiddity: Exciting! Thank you, I can't wait to try it with my LLM API-based reference verification experiments. Is there any provision for keeping secrets like API keys? Sandizer (talk) 07:45, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the ping, I am very happy to hear that, after waiting patiently. ToadetteEdit (talk) 19:17, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
