No eval on user input

Hi Asked42! Thank you for your contributions, I really appreciate them, and I am sorry that my first interaction with you is this one. Please do not use eval on user input as was done in this implementation: Z13934. It circumvents one of our layers of protection against malicious stuff going on. We have a few more, but it would be good to keep all the layers intact. Thank you! I disconnected the implementation for now. --DVrandecic (WMF) (talk) 01:51, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting me know. I will make sure not to use this anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience. Asked42 (talk) 09:04, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Asked42: Thank you for your understanding! I also will go an check whether we are actually saying to not use eval anywhere. To make it clear, I consider your edit to have been totally in good faith. Thanks! --DVrandecic (WMF) (talk) 16:40, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bengali date - new Type?

Hi Asked42. Sorry to hear that the loss of Wikinews has hit you hard. We really need editors representing all languages here, and Abstract Wikipedia is just beginning, so isn't going away any time soon. I hope you can invest your time here. (I similarly have wandered around sister projects in my 22 years on wiki. I like the variety it provides, and I learn more when I get deep into each project I focus on.) I was just reminded of Z18462, and wondered if you were interested in putting together a Type Proposal for Bengali dates. A simpler type for Bengali months would be the starting point. I'd suggest a lightweight enumeration Type for that, so if you're interested, you could model your proposal on Wikifunctions:Type_proposals/Hijri_calendar_month. --99of9 (talk) 23:48, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I am trying to catch up with the changes that have happened on wikifunctions while I was inactive for several months. I am also working on creating some Bengali language related functions here and there. I will look into proposing a new lightweight enum type for Bengali months and will discuss it with other interested users who have worked on Bengali related functions to gather their input.
That said, it seems the current focus is more on creating functions related to abstract article generation and, I assume, grammatical functions. I am also exploring those areas. To clarify, I am not saying that a type for Bengali months is not important.
Regarding, "I hope you can invest your time here": I would definitely like that. When I first discovered Wikifunctions around three years ago, I found it very interesting and exciting, and I still feel the same way now. -- Asked42 (talk) 18:34, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Dates are an important aspect of functions for natural language generation, especially in the context of encyclopedic content (or news content, for that matter!) Arlo Barnes (talk) 19:27, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
