List of Objects with longer Labels and Descriptions

You can find a Spreadsheets with Labels and Descriptions of Z-Objects in Wikifunctions in the following Spreadsheet hosted on PAWS in the WMCloud. [1]. The name of the file is Wikifunctionstextlist.ods. Out of the new dump generated today I ran a program to extract The Labels, Descriptions and Alias. The limit for Title is as far as I have seen 50 characters and 200 for descriptions. It is possible to use this list to generate Lists per language. This is something I want to do in the next days maybe. I am not yet sure if it is possible to describe all functions well enough through a title with not more than 50 characters. At the other side I think it is not necessary that the title alone enables people to use a function. Hogü-456 (talk) 20:35, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Deprecation of ⚠️ same Reference (Z17464) and the function deprecation (and deletion) process

I don’t think we have an agreed process for deprecating a function, so I made one up. Please feel free to comment here on the process. Please add any comments on the specific proposal to the proposal.

  1. If a function has no dependencies (other than its own implementations and test cases), it may be proposed for deletion at Wikifunctions: Requests for deletions.
  2. Rename the function to indicate that it is (at risk of being) deprecated or deleted (using ⚠️, for example).
  3. Propose the function’s deprecation or deletion on its Talk page, see Talk:Z17464, for example.
  4. Announce a proposal for deprecation on Wikifunctions:Project chat. This will not generally be necessary for a simple deletion.
  5. If there are no objections to the proposal within seven days, the function is deemed to be deprecated.
  6. If there are no remaining dependencies or outstanding actions (identified in the proposal or comments), a deprecated function may be proposed for deletion.

I expect to add this topic to Wikifunctions talk:Best practices next Saturday. GrounderUK (talk) 11:48, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

That seems fine to me, but I think some clarification between deprecation and deletion would be nice. Zippybonzo (talk) 20:27, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Good point. I’ll add a bit of an introduction. Thank you. GrounderUK (talk) 07:22, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
